Julie Kopová’s art has long been profiled in the field of gestural painting, whose primary thematization is sought in the abstract uncovering of specific natural processes. Solitary points are rarely found in the landscape – rhythmization can be found in every meadow, water surface, forest and lithospheric plate. Even these lower layers of the landscape (plate tectonics, rock collisions, heat and pressure) are a strong source of inspiration for Julie Kopová. The exhibition The Grey Volcano follows, both in its title and in the selection of specific artworks, the artist’s intention to focus her recent work mainly on movement outside the colour spectrum, and most of the paintings accentuate more the action on the field between the black and white.
